I am writing a five minute blog for a group called Five Minute Friday. [I always go a little over the 5 minute blog because I always add a Bible passage and a prayer.]
Jesus tells us to forget the past and move onward. If we have confessed our sins to Jesus, asked for forgiveness and trusted in His shed blood on the cross we have been reconciled to God. It is not easy to forget the past. We need help: from God, friends, family and even from a good therapist.
If we have done wrong we need to accept responsibility for what we have done, apologize, make amends and ask for forgiveness. We do not need to live in the past filled with shame and guilt, and apologize over and over again. God loves us. He has forgiven us. We need to have some self compassion, forgive ourselves and forget our past. We need to focus on Jesus and His great love for us. We do this by going to a Bible preaching church, meditating on Scripture, building up good Christian friendships and listening to Christian music. I recently did this by Googling Bible verses about God’s love for me.
For God loved you so much that He gave His only Son so that if you believe in Him, you will not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn you, but but He sent His Son so you would be saved.
Dear Father,
Help us to forget the sins of our past. We are all sinful. If there is a reader who has never repented of their sin and trusted in Jesus, may they do so today. If there is one who is struggling with their past help them to forget the past and move forward. May you lead them to a therapist who will help them. Lead them to a Bible preaching church. Help them to read the Bible every day, for in it they will find the truth. The truth will set them free. Help them to Google Bible verses about your love for them. To You be all of the glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen.

Yesterday is past and gone,
let dead inter their dead,
for I must be moving on
to what God’s got ahead
of me, in this my bright rebirth
(can’t recognize myself!);
the old man that was born of earth
now rests upon a shelf
to be soon taken to the flame,
like a worn-out suit of clothes;
now my garment is my name
(see how bright it glows!)
as I set out ‘cross Heaven’s land,
fingers wrapped ’round Abba’s hand.

Amen. Nice devotional. The enemy is always trying to remind me of things God told me to forget. Excellent reminder. Thank you! (FMF#24)

This is a great reminder, Terri, that we need to move forward. I love that you include a therapist and a good church/friends, because they are so important to our ability to move forward, like the sojourners in Psalm 84. Your story is similar to mine in some ways. I’m glad I found your post today. Kath, your FMF neighbour at #4 this week.

Thank you Kath. For some reason I can read the blogs on FMF but I am having technical difficulty when I try to leave a comment. I really enjoy reading them though.
