I didn’t tell my husband. If I had told my husband he would have told me we could not afford it. He would have told me not to waste my money. But I love my children and my Grandchildren. Even if they do not love me, I love them. So I bought a present for my daughter Heather.

I love to buy gifts for the people I love. It brings me great joy to select a special gift for someone. When I was a child, if I had any money I went to Carol’s flowers in Holyoke, Ma and bought flowers for my mother. I buy wonderful gifts for my husband on Christmas and on his birthday.

So I bought a gift card for the Cheesecake Factory. I mailed it to my granddaughter a couple weeks ago and told her to take Mommy out for cheesecake to celebrate going back to school. I thought this would be a nice mother daughter treat for them.

Yesterday the card was sent back to me. On the envelope it said “RETURN TO SENDER. NOT DELIVERABLE AS ADDRESSED. UNABLE TO FORWARD.” How disappointing. My daughter loves The Cheesecake Factory. I will invite someone to go with me and I will eat cheesecake myself. What a blessing my daughter missed out on.

I dreamed I passed away and found myself bowing at Jesus’s feet. The light was so bright I could not see. As my eyes adjusted I saw Jesus with his arms opened wide. He gave me a big hug and welcomed me to my eternal home. He showed me around heaven. The streets were paved with gold and the mansions were made of pearls, diamonds, rubies and sapphire. Then he brought me inside a storage room. The room was filled with gifts. He led me to a great big pile of gifts with my name written on them. These are the gifts I wanted to give you when you were on earth but you were disobedient, proud, selfish, ungrateful and lukewarm. So I could not give you all of these blessings.

God loves us. He wants to shower us with blessings that give us great joy but we are stubborn, selfish, willful, full of pride, unkind to the people who love us, easily offended, refusing to forgive, ignoring the widows and the homeless people.

We never share our faith with anyone- we do not tell people how much God loves them, how Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins, that if we repent of our sins and have faith in Jesus virgin birth, sinless life, death on the cross, resurrection from the dead and return to the throne in heaven. We don’t tell people their sins can be forgiven and if they are born again, they become a child of God and have an eternal inheritance in heaven. We don’t open the word of God and really meditate on Scripture. We don’t spend time in prayer, offering thanksgiving and praise, praying for other people’s needs, for our missionaries, for our country and for our own needs.

God wants to shower us with blessings like peace, love, joy, the people God sends to love us, our house or apartment, our food, our nice clothes, our cars, our health, protection for our families, our jobs, and so many more blessings. When we open His Word, God blesses us. When we pray, God blesses us. When we tell others about Jesus God blesses us. When we are humble, when we tithe, when we are grateful, compassionate and forgiving, God blesses us. When we bring glory to God, He will bless us.

I am not saying God will give us a new car or a nicer house or a raise in our salary but He will bless us in other ways. It is up to us to be grateful for all He has given us. Children are a gift from God. Life- every day of life that God gives us is a blessing from God. Our loved ones, our friends and our church families are a blessing from God. Eyesight, hearing, walking, reasoning, talking are all gifts of God. Peace, joy, love, faith, hope and strength are a gift from God. We all have something or someone we can be grateful for. God has many blessings for us if only we will live for Him.

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it shall be measured to you.” Luke 6:38

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming from the Father of the heavenly heights who does not change like shifting shadows.” James1:17

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that you, in all things in all times, having all that you need, will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8

Dear Father,

I pray for my readers today. I ask that your words, from my heart to this blog to their eyes will be a blessing and an encouragement to them. I ask that you help all of us to live a life that is pleasing to you. I ask that you would help us to be grateful for all of your blessings, whether big or small, and that you would help us take the time to say thank you. I ask that you would help us find time to read your Word and talk to you in prayer. I ask that you would fill our hearts with love and compassion for others, even those who have hurt us. I ask that you would help us to give generously and sacrificially to our churches, our poor and our homeless people. I ask that you that you would give us the opportunities and the boldness to share our faith with lost people around us. Jesus you died for us. Help us to die to our own selfish desires and live for you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen
