I purchased an app on my iPhone. It is called Abide. There is a daily meditation on a verse of Scripture. You can mediate for 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes or 15 minutes.. I mediate for 15 minutes every morning. (The app is $5.00 per month and well worth it). It is so relaxing. I just love it!

This morning’s meditation was on Romans 16:20. In our lives we battle one thing after another. These battles come from our enemy, the devil. The Bible says that the God of peace shall bruise Satan under our feet shortly. (Romans 16:20. ). One day the devil will be cast into a lake of Fire. (Revelation 19:19-20)

What does Satan’s eternal destruction have to do with me? In my own life, I often fail to recognize that my negative thoughts come from the devil. Thoughts like, “nobody cares about me, ” or “_________ doesn’t love you ” or “don’t put up with that- tell that person off” or “don’t forgive that person- look at what they did to you. They don’t deserve your forgiveness.” Sometimes I have thoughts like ” You are a terrible mother- look what you did” or you call yourself a Christian and you just said (or did) that? You are not a very good Christian” or ” I am fat, I am ugly, I am old, I am stupid, I cannot do anything right.” Do any of these or similar thoughts plague you? What are the lies of the devil that you are believing?

All variations of these thoughts come from the devil who wants to steal our joy, destroy our marriages and families and wreck our lives. But one day that enemy will be cast into the pit of hell. When that time comes, all our hatred, anger, bitterness, negative emotions and demeaning thoughts will be gone. One day God will wipe away all of our tears. There will be no more sorrow, no more death. We will be filled with God’s peace, God’s love and God’s joy. (See Revelation 21:1-5).

God wants us to have peace, joy, love, longsuffering, kindness, gentleness and the rest of the fruit of the Spirit right now. Let us take every thought captive. When we have those negative thoughts and emotions, we need to recognize that they are from the devil. We need to call upon Jesus, claim His promises, believe the truths God teaches us instead of the lies of the evil one. The more we read and meditate on God’s Word the stronger our faith will become. We are in a spiritual battle and we need to keep our protective armor on.

Finally my brethren, be strong in the LORD, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the attacks of the devil.” Ephesians 6:

“Recompense no man evil for evil… If it be possible, as much as lies within you, live peaceably with all men… be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:17,18, 21

“Great peace have they who love your law: and nothing shall offend them.” Psalm119:165

Dear Father,

Help me to take every thought captive in obedience to you. Help me to look at my thoughts and truthfully see if these thoughts are coming from you or from the devil. Help me to see people as you see them, to love people as you love people and to humbly serve others. Help to me to have compassion on those who have hurt me, and to forgive them as you have forgiven me. Let my words and my actions be pleasing to you. Give me your peace, which is far above all human understanding. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
