When I am playing Words With Friends, or another game online, or listening to Pandora, or watching tv, I am bombarded by advertisements. I see beautiful clothes, pretty jewelry, wonderful gifts and truly great godly books that will help me draw closer to God and get more out of his Word. They offer books that promise me I can learn how to write a book and get it published. These advertisers know what interests me- what I like to buy. And the temptation is so hard to resist. These are all good things. But I have already overspent. I have already maxed out my credit card with really great things. When will the madness stop?

It will stop when I stop giving into the flesh, and buying all these things that appeal to me. Like Nike says, “JUST SAY NO.” I have pretty clothes. I don’t need to buy gifts. I can send a card or a postcard.I have my Bible. Reading my Bible will bring me closer to God. I AM writing a book and I have a stack of books already that can teach me how to be a better writer. God is my helper. God will help me write a book and get it published. God will meet my needs.

What About you? What is that temptation you keep giving into over and over and over again? Confess your sin. Ask God to help you one day at a time, one hour at a time and one minute at a time. Soak yourself in Scripture. Ask others to pray for you to overcome this temptation. Give this temptation to Jesus- over and over and over again. You can live a victorious Christian life!

“But Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, let us be content…. For the LOVE OF money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themself through with many sorrows.”

Dear God,

Please forgive me for my frivolous and wasteful spending. Yes, it is okay to buy nice things but it is definitely not okay to continue to go deeper and deeper into debt. Forgive me Lord for my love of money and material things. Help me to use my money wisely in ways that are pleasing to you. Help me to put you first in my spending, my bills, debts and obligations second and material goods last. In Jesus name I pray, Amen

  1. Not to mention that getting out of debt will be such a blessing to your husband. Oh yeah I guess I just mentioned that. 🙂
