Last night I was in a full blown manic state of bipolar depression. I rarely ever get to such extreme lows but I had not slept and I missed my bipolar medications for an entire day.
What about you? Have you had a meltdown? Have you done or said something really terrible? Have you destroyed a valuable friendship or relationship? Have you given in to food, alcohol, drugs, gambling, porn, temper, violence, sex or something else again?
Here are the things that help me. God. First I confess my sin to God. I repented of my sins years ago, put my faith in Jesus and asked Him to be my Lord and Savior. That is the first and most important thing to do. When I sin, as a child of God I confess my sin to God and I accept God’s forgiveness. I confess my sin and ask forgiveness from the person I have hurt or offended. They may or may not choose to forgive me. The important thing is that God has forgiven me.
God helps me every day and in so many ways. He uses people to help me. On Sundays I go to church and hear the preaching of God’s Word. There is power in the preaching and teaching of God’s Word. The worship music is so beautiful in church. I feel so close to God when I listen to and sing hymns and praise and worship music. The friends I have both past and present are the friends I have made in church. We have repented of our sin, put our faith in Jesus and we have all been adopted into the family of God. You are not blessed with a loving family? Put your faith in Jesus and become part of God’s forever family. I go to Celebrate Recovery- similar to AA but our steps are based on principles from God’s Word and Jesus Christ is our higher power. I have seen people who have hurts, habits and hang ups have their lives radically changed by the power of God and a Celebrate Recovery Group. CR groups meet at churches all over the country and in many other countries. I have a therapist and a psychiatrist. I take medication for bipolar depression, depression and anxiety. Believe me when I say counseling and medication makes a huge difference in my life. I work out. Join a gym or a fitness class. But a cardio dvd and a yoga dvd. It really helps. Stop eating all the junk food. You are poisoning yourself. You cannot stop with the junk food? Then go to a Celebrate Recovery group. Eat right, exercise and that will help you sleep better at night. Turn off electronics an hour before bed. Drink sleepytime (chamomile) tea. Take medicine if you need it. Sleep is vital to your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Talk to a friend. Don’t keep everything bottled up inside you. See a therapist. Call a friend. Talk to God.
